What it does: This free tool takes a volume you know in cubic yards and instantly shows the equivalent in cubic feet, cubic meters, liters, US gallons and UK gallons. Why it matters: Different trades and projects use different units—landscapers, contractors, and hobbyists need the right measure to order material, estimate costs, or compare specs. How to read: The first column is cubic feet (27 ft³ per yd³), then cubic meters (0.764554857984 m³ per yd³), liters (multiply cubic meters by 1,000), US gallons (201.974 per yd³) and UK gallons (166.179 per yd³). Example: 2 yd³ = 54 ft³, 1.53 m³, 1,529 L, 403.95 US gal, 332.36 UK gal.
Pro tips
- Add a 10% waste allowance when ordering bulk material
- Round up the final numbers to avoid shortfalls
- List results from largest to smallest unit for quick comparison
- Double‑check you’re using the correct gallon type for your region
Real-life examples
- A landscaper needs to know how many US gallons of mulch to order for a 3 yd³ bed
- A contractor must convert 5 yd³ of concrete to cubic meters for a permit application
- A DIY homeowner wants the liter capacity of a 1.5 yd³ compost bin
Case study
Before using the converter, a contractor estimated 4 yd³ of concrete as 400 US gallons and ordered too little. After entering 4 yd³, the tool showed 807.90 US gallons, so he ordered the correct amount and avoided a costly delay.
