How to use it
- Enter the length in feet
- Enter the width in feet
- Enter coverage per unit (default 50) or keep default
- Read the units needed and total area results
What it does – The Mulch Calculator takes the length and width of your garden bed, multiplies them to give the total square‑foot area, then divides by the coverage you expect from one mulch unit (default 50 sq ft). The result shows how many bags, pallets or rolls you should buy and confirms the covered area. Why it matters – Buying too little leaves gaps, buying too much wastes money and space. How to read it – The Units needed field is always rounded up to the next whole unit, because you can’t purchase a fraction. The Area field simply confirms the square footage you entered. If you use a finer mulch that spreads further, change the coverage value to match the product spec; the calculator updates instantly. You can save or share the result, making it easy to compare quotes from suppliers.

Case study
Jane measured a 12 ft × 8 ft garden, entered the numbers, and the calculator showed she needed 2 bags (covering 96 sq ft). She ordered 2 bags, saved $15 by avoiding a third, and her beds were fully covered the same day.
